Signal paths for connecting frequency extenders are provided on the front panel of the instrument using removable 3.5 mm jumpers. Additionally, there are connectors on the rear panel of the analyzers for transmitting control signals and power.

The device has four measurement ports and two test signal generators with a common reference.
The presence of four measurement ports allows simultaneous measurement of sixteen scattering matrix elements of a four-port device with a single connection.
The C4409 is a four-port device.
Vector network analyzers are designed for measuring the complex transmission and reflection coefficients (scattering matrix elements) of multiports. Vector network analyzers are intended for use with an external computer, which is not included in the delivery set.
For operation in automated test systems, vector network analyzers support remote control via COM, TCP/IP Socket protocols.
The instruments are supplied with software designed for Windows OS operation. Software for operation with Linux OS is provided upon request.
The analyzers in the series differ in the number of measurement ports located on the front panel.
